Process improvement frameworks like Statistical Process Control (SPC) offers us a way to statistically and systematically identify, isolate, analyze, improve and sustain software process improvement using complementary models like SEI’s CMM/CMMI. If an organization wants to reap significant improvements in business results, SPC offers the tools to accomplish it.

Participants will learn the through this series, the systematic way to use SPC methods and the CMM/CMMI model to direct its resources efficiently and effectively to make software process improvements that are significant and sustainable.

• Software Process Improvement Planning
  • This will help you develop an action plan that uses the CMM/CMMI to achieve business goals and solve software development problems.
    
• Software Process Mapping
  • This will help you establish your current / as-is process using process modeling methods. You will also be able to use the same methods to design the improved-version /to-be process. Using structured methods will ensure that the process is captured accurately to perform qualitative analysis. It also ensures that when used to create the to-be process, that it is comprehensive and complete. Included is the mapping of the current process to the CMM/CMMI model for verification.
    
• Software Process Analysis
  • This is made up of 3 key parts
    • Software Measurement System Analysis
      • Before using data to determine the performance of the software process, the measurement system itself has to be validated using techniques of Measurement Systems Analysis to determine the amount of error that is introduced to the data reported.
        
    • Software Process Analysis
      • Understanding the software process variance and the relationship between key parameters will help us determine where are the opportunities for process improvement.
        
    • Software Process Control
      • Some software processes are critical to the project, and having a quantitative understanding and management of it may be required. In such situations, Statistical Process Control is applied to enable you to keep the process stable, and if desired allow you to begin making those greater improvements complimented by Technology and/or Process Change. This module is ideal for those working at CMM/CMMI maturity level 4 or 5.
